The Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter depends on individuals, businesses, community groups, foundations, religious congregations, and federal and state grants for continued support of our operating budget. MMHS is self-supported through campaigns, fund-raisers, and other grants.
MMHS Seeks Expansion of Services!
Homelessness has increased by 69% in the past fifteen years. Unfortunately, the need far exceeds what MMHS's current facility can provide. Due to space constraints an average of 30 individuals and family members are turned away each month. MMHS has been able to purchase land on Colby Circle in Waterville and is the site for a proposed shelter that is over four times the size of the current one. Excitement abounds, however the estimated cost of this is a staggering $1,800,000+. Fundraising efforts are being developed and the success of those efforts will determine how quickly the new shelter can be built.
