  1. Feel a sense of accomplishment and personal satisfaction
  2. Change and enrich the lives of people in your community
  3. Be part of a compassionate culture and dedicated team
  4. Learn more about the hardships facing many people in our community
  5. Experience in the health and human services field
  6. Put your talents and experience to work for a good cause
  7. Help keep operating costs down so we can help more people

I think volunteers make a big difference, my stay here is better because my kids are happier when volunteers are here.

Why I Volunteer

Volunteer Sarah P.

I was nervous about starting volunteering at the shelter but once I started I saw all that the shelter does for people, I see how hard everyone works to keep everything flowing, and I want to give to the community that I live in. I look forward to the positive atmosphere that everyone creates and look forward to continuing volunteering and helping contribute to the shelter.

Sandy M who volunteers at MMHSS,

I enjoy working with the staff, guests, and the public who come in and on the phone. I always feel as I have been productive when I leave my shift and am always made to feel that I am needed, valued, and have made a difference.

Volunteer Mary.

I saw an article in the paper about the shelter and decided to apply to become a volunteer. I love helping other people and really enjoy my time spent here, volunteering in the office.
